Altadena Impacted Parks Left With $240M in Damage and Zero FEMA Dollars

Nineteen months after the Eaton Fire, Altadena’s parks have received no FEMA funding despite more than $240M  in estimated damage. The county has raised $64M   through grants, donations, insurance and corporate partnerships, allowing Loma Alta and Altadena Triangle parks to reopen and work to advance at Charles White and Farnsworth parks. Major funding gaps remain for Farnsworth Park, Eaton Canyon, Altadena trails and the closed Altadena Golf Course. County officials said recovery has depended heavily on volunteers and private support, while Town Council leaders called the lack of federal aid “unconscionable.” Concerns also remain about whether soil at all fire-impacted parks in Altadena and Pasadena has been adequately tested and reached clearance standards.
