With CA's General Election on Tuesday, November 3, EFRU and fellow wildfire survivor advocates have called on Insurance Commissioner candidates Ben Allen and Jane Kim to address insurer practices surrounding wildfire smoke contamination, testing, and remediation. Both Allen and Kim candidates submitted written responses outlining their commitments to protecting policyholders and holding insurers accountable, although their approaches differ. Recent reporting also examines the Insurance Commissioner's regulatory and enforcement authority, including what the office can accomplish independently and what requires legislative action. These are campaign commitments, not binding policy changes. Residents displaced by the Eaton, Palisades, or Lineage fires may also need to update their voter registration address ahead of Election Day.
