Officials Say “No Failure.” Survivors Say That’s Not Acceptable

Multiple outlets reported on the new outside review of Eaton Fire evacuation decisions, which found no failure, delay, misconduct, or discrimination by LA County fire officials in the timing of evacuation alerts west of Lake Avenue and in West Altadena. But for many survivors and Altadena advocates, the report does not resolve the deeper questions. Residents are still asking why warning systems failed to reach people in time, why so many lives and homes were lost, and whether official reviews are fully accounting for what the community actually experienced. The findings may clear agencies procedurally, but survivors continue to demand accountability, transparency, and real changes so the lessons of the Eaton Fire lead to stronger protections before the next disaster.
