Supervisor Barger Announces $3M Soil Remediation Program for Eaton Fire Standing Homes

CBS LA, LAist, and Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s office report that LA County has approved a $3M Altadena Soil Remediation Program to address lead-contaminated soil at Eaton Fire-affected properties where homes remain standing. The program combines $1M in County funding with $2M in state funding and will be administered by the LA County Development Authority. Expected to launch this fall, the program will cover enrollment, administration, and remediation costs, prioritizing households with pregnant residents or children under age six. Community organizations and researchers involved in post-fire soil testing will help shape implementation, outreach, and technical support for residents.
