The urgency has increased following a recent Senate Insurance Committee analysis describing discussions among the bill’s author, the California Department of Insurance, and the insurance industry about adding smoke-damage sublimits to AB 1795. If written into law, these limits could cap how much policyholders are able to recover for contamination testing, remediation, repairs, and toxic smoke and ash damage under newly issued or renewed policies.
