URGENT Call to Action NOW re Standing Home Testing Bills
AB 1642, the Wildfire Environmental Safety and Testing Act, is scheduled for a Senate Environmental Quality Committee hearing on Wednesday, July 1. The bill would establish statewide, science-based requirements for testing, remediation, and clearance before occupancy after wildland-urban interface fires.
In May, fire survivors and supporters flooded Assembly offices with calls urging members to vote no, preventing the insurance bill AB 1795, limiting testing, from securing enough votes to initially pass the Assembly Floor. The bill advanced only after Assemblymember Gipson committed to amendments addressing those concerns. Yet three weeks later, those amendments remain absent. The Senate committee must not allow AB 1795 to move forward based on promises that have not been fulfilled.
Action: June 29 - June 30 join the Call to Action to support AB 1642 and urge the Senate Environmental Quality Committee to stop AB 1795 until Gipson fulfills his committed amendments.
