White House Again Omits Eaton and Palisades Fire Relief
Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla criticized the White House for again excluding disaster assistance for survivors of the January 2025 Eaton and Palisades fires from its latest supplemental funding request. The administration requested $87.6 billion—primarily for costs related to the war with Iran—but included no additional funding to help LA County communities rebuild. The senators accused President Trump of withholding assistance for political reasons, arguing that disaster relief should not depend on how a state or community voted. They noted that California’s congressional delegation has repeatedly sought billions in overdue federal assistance, including through a bipartisan request submitted to the president in January 2026.
