Federal Reps Reference EFRU and Demand Answers From Insurers for Standing Home Survivors
Rep. Judy Chu and Sen. Adam Schiff led 14 California delegation members in a letter pressing nine major insurers for answers about claims practices that are delaying fair compensation for Eaton and Palisades fire survivors, citing burdensome itemization/receipt demands, repeated adjuster reassignments, and delayed payouts that may implicate California consumer-protection laws. The press release also notes that Chu previously wrote Gov. Newsom and Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara in December 2025, citing findings from Eaton Fire Residents United (EFRU) showing elevated lead and asbestos in still-standing homes and urging requirements for insurer-covered soil testing, repeated remediation until homes clear, and extended ALE coverage.
