Apply for CAER’s No-Cost Soil Remediation Program

The Centre for Applied Ecological Remediation (CAER) has FireAid and GreaterGood funding to provide no-cost soil bioremediation for eligible homes in Altadena and the Palisades, including both burned and standing properties. The program uses plants and fungi to reduce soil contamination and includes soil testing before, during, and after remediation, site-specific design and installation, ongoing monitoring, and plant removal once contaminants fall below safety thresholds. Eligible properties must show contamination above regulatory safety levels for at least one contaminant, have lead levels below 400 ppm, have water access restored by April, and allow about a year for completion. Because space is limited, priority goes to households returning soon, those with young children or expecting newborns, and residents who are underinsured or uninsured for soil remediation. Applications are due April 1, with eligible applicants selected by lottery, though additional low-cost services may also be available.
