Mortgage, Foreclosure and Financial-Recovery Help

CalAssist Mortgage Fund may provide qualifying disaster-impacted homeowners with up to 12 months of mortgage payments, up to $100,000, paid directly to the mortgage servicer as a grant. NHS offers application assistance and financial counseling; LA County provides foreclosure-prevention counseling; and Money Management International offers longer-term disaster financial counseling.

New wildfire mortgage protections may also help. If your mortgage servicer is denying disaster forbearance, demanding improper repayment, or threatening foreclosure, contact the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) at 866-275-2677 and file a formal complaint. Homeowners can also file a federal mortgage-servicing complaint with the CFPB at 855-411-2372.
