Preparing Fire-Impacted Properties for Rain
With rain and debris-flow season approaching, survivors with fire-affected properties should begin preparing now. LAist’s practical guide covers drainage, erosion control, mulch and compost, slope protection, PPE and other steps that can reduce risk before storms arrive. LA County also recommends keeping gutters, roofs and drains clear, signing up for emergency alerts, identifying evacuation routes and understanding whether your property is in a flood or debris-flow risk area.
Residents with questions about property drainage and storm preparation can contact LA County Public Works at 1-800-933-0930. Standard homeowners insurance generally does not cover flooding, and separate flood insurance can involve a waiting period before coverage begins.
