Catalyst CA Issues a Data Map Exposing Altadena’s Unequal Road to Recovery
Red Tape to Recovery: Tracking Altadena Rebuilding After the Eaton Fire is a new data map designed by Catalyst California to help Altadena survivor groups advocate for equitable recovery policies and hold decision-makers accountable. The tool tracks the repair, rebuild, and sale status of significantly damaged residential properties to illustrate who has the means to return and who is being left behind. It also maps how fire damage and environmental hazards are affecting rebuilding outcomes, including the impact of lead on the community. Users can filter the dashboard to compare progress across West and East Altadena, different residential types (single-family, multifamily, etc.), and various stages of rebuilding. The dashboard will be updated regularly to provide timely, accurate recovery data. The project encourages public officials, insurers, and funders to use the map to better understand recovery barriers and to align policies and resources with equity goals. Community coalitions can also use it as an organizing and accountability tool to support neighbors navigating the rebuilding process.
