$25 Million Testing and Remediation Request Moves Into Final Budget Negotiations

A final August 14 coalition letter asks Governor Newsom and legislative leaders to include a one-time $25 million General Fund investment in the final 2026–27 budget for community-based environmental testing and remediation for Eaton and Palisades fire survivors. The proposal is designed to support free comprehensive indoor contamination testing for more than 2,500 families, no-cost smoke remediation for more than 250 families, and soil remediation and testing for more than 250 families, with more than 5,000 under-resourced survivors identified as intended beneficiaries. EFRU is among the signatories.

Action: EFRU will continue sharing budget updates as negotiations move forward.
