Altadena Low Income Recovery Abandoned Again as CARE Fund Is Left Out of the Budget

The CARE Fund would provide $25M of direct public-health assistance to help low-income fire survivors pay for testing and remediation of contaminated standing homes. Without this support, many families face an impossible choice between returning to an unsafe home and paying unaffordable costs out of pocket. The funding was not included in the Governor’s May Revision or the Legislature’s initial budget proposal. Once again, Altadena residents are being left without meaningful government support while facing severe financial losses, prolonged displacement, and serious health hazards in their homes. There is still one remaining opportunity to secure the CARE Fund through a small-investment budget request before August. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
