Fire Survivors Demand Answers on State Recovery Funds

Fire survivors and community advocates held a May 14 press conference in Altadena demanding transparency around California's $2.5 billion wildfire relief package for the LA fires that was announced by Governor Newson in January of 2025. Advocates say communities are still facing severe displacement, toxic contamination concerns, economic hardship, and unmet recovery needs while large portions of promised relief funds remain unclear or unavailable. The coalition is calling for a full audit, public expenditure records, oversight hearings, and immediate clarification from the Governor's Office and Department of Finance about where the much needed recovery funds went for the recovery of their community. News reports state EFRU organized the event, but it was led by the Eaton Fire Collaborative Advocacy Committee. EFRU was present as a supportive organization.
