LA County Launches Fire Response Improvement Survey

Los Angeles County is asking residents impacted by the January 2025 Eaton and Palisades fires to share their experiences through a new community survey. As many who follow EFRU know, our organization formed in the wake of the Eaton Fire to address the lack of clear, science-based guidance and accountability around toxic contamination and to advocate for a safe, equitable recovery for residents. In the absence of government-led contamination testing – even though soil footprint testing had been standard in California WUI fires for the past 20 years – EFRU came together to analyze independent indoor environmental testing, and the same wildfire debris contamination that made its way into our homes also settled into our soil. EFRU continues to push for transparent public-health information and to educate residents in support of a safe, evidence-based recovery.

This is an opportunity to share your experiences with local government how you may have not received the support needed to make decisions, whether it be information or resources, for an informed and safe recovery. It is also a chance to share any positive experiences you had with County support during your recovery.

The survey will help inform the County’s independent After-Action Review of fire recovery and repopulation efforts, being conducted by the McChrystal Group following the historic fires in Altadena and the Palisades. The deadline to participate is April 24.
