LA County Moves Approves Homelessness Prevention Plan for Wildfire Survivors
The LA County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a coordinated homelessness-prevention framework that will prioritize survivors of the Eaton and Palisades fires. The action responds to survey findings that two-thirds of affected residents remain displaced, nearly half have exhausted or will soon lose insurance-funded temporary housing, and many could not maintain housing for more than six months without assistance.Within 45 days, the county will create a public resource webpage covering rental assistance, mortgage relief, legal aid, utility support, and related services. It will also establish a single point of contact, a dedicated Prevention Navigator, and a coordinated referral and triage system to connect residents with appropriate programs and identify service gaps. An outreach plan due July 21 will engage fire-recovery organizations, including the Eaton Fire Collaborative, to help connect survivors with available assistance before housing instability becomes homelessness.
