LA County Releases Second After-Action Review of Wildfire Recovery

Los Angeles County has released its second independent After-Action Review examining recovery and repopulation after the January 2025 fires. The review identifies 26 findings and 25 recommendations across recovery operations, repopulation, shelter and housing, public health, communications, and volunteer and donations management. The review found that County staff and partners built important systems under extraordinary pressure, but also documented major gaps in pre-existing recovery planning, including the absence of an updated operational recovery plan and formal repopulation framework. County departments have been directed to move forward on the recommendations and report on implementation.
