PUSD Moves Forward With Longfellow Soil Removal; Blair Will Test Bioremediation

PUSD says several mature protected trees at Longfellow Magnet School must be removed so Eaton-Fire-related contaminated soil can be excavated from areas overlapping critical root zones. According to the District, DTSC has determined that the contaminated soil and related obstructions must be addressed for the campus to reach a No Further Action determination and unrestricted educational use. PUSD is taking a different approach at Blair High School, where it approved an approximately eight-month bioremediation project with the Center for Applied Ecological Remediation for a contaminated area containing two protected trees. The District says the differing approaches reflect site-specific conditions, with bioremediation considered feasible at Blair but not a reliable or timely substitute for the state-overseen soil removal required at Longfellow.
