Purdue Guide to Post-Wildfire Contamination
Purdue University’s Center for Plumbing Safety has created a wildfire-recovery resource hub covering soil contamination, indoor environmental testing, plumbing and private wells, and drinking-water safety. The work is led by Dr. Andrew Whelton, Professor of Civil and Construction Engineering and Environmental Engineering at Purdue and Lead for the Center for Plumbing Safety, whose research focuses on disaster response, environmental contamination, water quality, and infrastructure. His team has also worked with Eaton and Palisades property owners following the 2025 Los Angeles fires. The site offers practical, science-backed guidance on identifying contamination that can remain after visible ash and debris are removed.
