PUSD Board Votes to Preserve Up to 57 Trees While Continuing to Removing Others at 11 Remediation Sites
The Pasadena Unified School District Board voted to preserve up to 57 protected trees while continuing planned removal of other trees within 11 fire-related contaminated-soil remediation projects. PUSD says it will refine the work site by site and tree by tree, while affected work areas remain closed because contaminated soil has been identified at levels the District describes as harmful to health and safety. A wildlife biologist has also been engaged to review trees and protect active bird nests. Many residents are continuing to push back and insist there is no clear reason why trees must be taken down in order to remediate soil on school properties.
