Recovery Still Stalled for Thousands 15 Months After the Eaton Fire

The LA Daily News reports fifteen months after the Eaton Fire, many homeowners have still not begun rebuilding due to a combination of financial, regulatory, and environmental barriers. Insurance disputes remain a primary obstacle, with underpayments, delays, and disagreements over scope leaving residents without sufficient funds to move forward. At the same time, rising construction costs, contractor shortages, and evolving building requirements are making rebuilding more expensive and complex. Additional delays stem from permitting processes, infrastructure challenges, and ongoing concerns about contamination and site safety, particularly for standing homes and partially damaged properties. For many residents, these overlapping issues have turned recovery into a prolonged, uncertain process, with thousands still unable to return or rebuild more than a year after the fire. Access the article here.
