Take Action by August 13: Help Pass Mortgage Relief for Fire Survivors

AB 1847 could provide critical mortgage relief for Eaton and Palisades fire survivors facing years of rebuilding while continuing to carry mortgages on destroyed or uninhabitable homes. The bill would extend mortgage forbearance protections, protect borrowers’ credit during forbearance, and help prevent deferred payments from becoming unaffordable lump-sum balloon payments. AB 1847 is now before the State Senate Appropriations Committee, and action is needed before August 13, when the committee announces which bills will advance. The Disaster Mortgage Relief action guide provides the names and email addresses of the Senators and key staff to contact, along with a sample letter, suggested subject line, and talking points to help fire survivors tell their own stories.
