Take Your Story to Sacramento to Support AB 1642
AB 1642, the Wildfire Environmental Safety and Testing Act, is moving through the Legislature now. It would establish clear standards for testing, remediation, and clearance after a WUI fire, so homes and communities are not treated as safe without proof.
At the same time, AB 1795 is being promoted by Assemblymember Gipson and Insurance Commissioner Lara as a science-based fire survivor bill. But as written, AB 1795 would greatly limit access to testing and could lock in the same insurance barriers survivors are already facing with testing.
Assembly members need to hear directly from fire survivors:
AB 1642 is the bill we need to safely recover our homes and community.
EFRU with Dena Rise Up and the EFC are organizing an overnight advocacy trip to Sacramento on May 18–19, 2026. We are looking for survivors willing to share their stories and speak directly with legislators about the contamination in your standing home or your difficulties in accessing testing for your home, school, or workplace. Whether you're a homeowner, renter, attend a local school, or work in the fire and ash impacted areas, we need you to tell your story about obtaining a safe recovery to legislators in person.
We will also be advocating for the CARE Fund, urgent housing relief, SB 878, and SB 1301.
BUS DEPARTURE: MAY 18 @8:30am
BUS RETURN: MAY 19 around 11pm
Travel, hotel, and meals are covered by the organizers.
