Tell Appropriations: Pass AB 1642 and Hold AB 1795 Unless Amended Before Thurs, May 14

Please consider posting to Facebook or IG with either a written message or recorded video with your testimony letting Appropriations know which bill you support as a fire survivor — and make sure to tag Appropriations Committee members. Below is a sample statement and who to tag.

AB 1642 is at risk of not making it through Appropriations if Insurance Commissioner Lara and Assemblymember Gibson convince Appropriations that AB 1795 as written is a fire survivor bill that is science based and addresses health & safety, which they are currently claiming. These are the very adjectives we’ve been using to describe AB 1642.

We need fire survivors to tag the below Appropriations Committee members who read social media so these assembly members can hear first hand from actual fire survivors. Appropriations make their decision this week and will announce it on Thursday 5/14 which bills get to continue on to the Assembly floor vote.

See below an example statement, but feel free to come up with your own:

I support AB 1642 and I oppose AB 1795 as it is written.

AB 1642 is a community backed bill that provides science based standards for a safe return home for Californians after wildfire.

In its current form AB 1795 makes it harder for Californians to get their homes tested and cleared. It harms community members and benefits insurance companies.
