Tax Day April 15: Tax Refund Rules Have Changed and Wildfire Relief Payments May Be Tax-Free

Pasadena Now reports that taxpayers who filed without direct-deposit information may receive IRS notice CP53E and have 30 days to update their banking details or wait an additional six weeks for a paper refund. The same report notes that qualified wildfire relief payments received in 2025 are generally not taxable if they were not reimbursed by insurance or another source.
