Three Insurance Accountability Bills Advance to the Senate Floor to Protect Fire Survivors

Three insurance accountability bills backed by wildfire survivors, Consumer Watchdog, and the Every Fire Survivor’s Network passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee and now head to the Senate Floor. SB 878 would strengthen penalties for delayed claim payments, SB 877 would require insurers to disclose original and revised loss estimates, and SB 1301 would give homeowners clearer notice and more time to address issues before nonrenewal. Supporters say the bills respond to major recovery barriers facing Eaton and Palisades fire survivors, including claim delays, underpayments, and sudden loss of coverage. Read more here.
