Wildfire Recovery Bills Head to Governor Newsom
Several wildfire-recovery bills have cleared the Legislature and are now awaiting Governor Newsom’s action. AB 1847, authored by Assemblymember John Harabedian, would provide qualifying homeowners whose primary residences remain uninhabitable after the 2025 LA wildfires with up to 24 months of mortgage forbearance and additional repayment protections. SB 877, SB 878 and SB 1301 address insurance issues including loss-estimate disclosures, timely written claim responses and payment handling, and nonrenewal notices and mitigation information. SB 1090, authored by Senator Sasha Renée Pérez and principally coauthored by Assemblymember Harabedian, addresses the SB 1123 by-right subdivision pathway in Eaton Fire-impacted Altadena while preserving specified rebuilding and housing options. None of these measures are law yet; the next step is action by the Governor.
