AB 1642 and AB 1795 Head to the Senate Floor

We are in the final days of the legislative session and high-stakes negotiations between the Governor, Assembly, and Senate are moving quickly. We need our community activated over the next 7 days—and your voice needs to be heard.

On June 8th, Assemblymember Gipson promised three key amendments to AB 1795 to improve the bill for fire survivors, and he has still not amended his bill. We want him to keep those promises.

THE ASK: Call Assemblymember Gipson and Insurance Commissioner Lara on Monday 8/24 or Tuesday 8/25 and say:

“Assemblymember/Commissioner: I am a survivor of the Eaton/Palisades Fire. Keep your promises to fire survivors and amend AB 1795 now.”

Background: AB 1642, sponsored by EFRU, would establish science-based testing and safety standards for contaminants to determine when standing homes and schools are safe to reoccupy. At the same time, AB 1795 is being presented as a fire-survivor protection bill, but, as written, it would codify insurance practices that have failed to make our homes safe and benefit insurers at survivors’ expense. Both bills are on the California Senate Floor. If they pass, they would then go to the Governor’s Desk for signature or veto by September 30, 2026.
