Further Extended Property Tax Deferral Now Available for Eaton and Palisades Fire Survivors

Governor Newsom’s administration has issued a letter allowing qualifying Eaton and Palisades fire survivors to defer eligible property taxes without penalties or interest through June 30, 2030. As of May 1, 2026, survivors can submit a Penalty Cancellation Request through the LA County Treasurer and Tax Collector if the fires prevented them from paying property taxes on time. A separate request is required for each property tax bill, and applicants will need their Assessor’s Identification Number. Refunds are not available for taxes already paid, but qualifying future bills may be deferred. Thank you to EFSN, Senator Pérez, Senator Allen, Assemblymember Harabedian, Assemblymember Irwin, Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Edmundo Cuevas, Tina Andolina, the LA County Assessor, and LA County Treasurer and Tax Collector Elizabeth Ginsberg for their advocacy and collaboration.
