More Than 100 Eaton Fire Survivors Take Their Recovery-Funding Fight to Sacramento
More than 100 Eaton Fire survivors, residents, workers, faith leaders and community advocates traveled to Sacramento for a two-day effort seeking $25 million for the proposed Community Aid for Rebuilding Equity, or CARE Fund. Organizers say the fund would help fill rebuilding gaps for lower-income homeowners and help preserve and expand affordable housing for displaced renters and working families. Survivors described the financial pressure of simultaneously paying mortgages on destroyed properties and rent for temporary housing, and warned that without additional recovery assistance families may survive the fire only to be permanently displaced from Altadena.
